Match ends, Brentford 3, Huddersfield Town 0.
Brentford marked their first league game at their new Community Stadium home with an ultimately comfortable victory over Huddersfield Town.
Josh Dasilva put the hosts in front early in the second half, slotting a superb low first-time shot past Ben Hamer after being teed up by Rico Henry down the left.
Although Huddersfield bossed possession and continued to look a threat, late goals from Marcus Forss and Bryan Mbeumo ensured the Terriers' losing start under new head coach Carlos Corberan would continue.
First Forss turned in from close range with four minutes remaining, before Mbeumo scored his first goal of the season with a fine curling strike from the edge of the box in stoppage time.
On a day that saw seven English Football League matches welcome fans back as part of a pilot, the Bees' new 17,250-capacity stadium remained empty on what should have been its grand opening.
But Brentford, who beat Wycombe Wanderers in the Carabao Cup in their first ever competitive match there on 6 September, were good value for their three points against the Terriers.
Ivan Toney, a summer signing from Peterborough United, twice wasted good one-on-one opportunities during an early Bees barrage, while Mbeumo also missed the target when well placed.
The closest Huddersfield went to scoring was when Jaden Brown's header clipped the post with the score at 1-0 but, despite seeing plenty of the ball, it was Brentford who ruthlessly wrapped up victory with the two late goals.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank praised Mbuemo, without the departed Ollie Watkins and Said Benrahma who looks set to leave.
"We lost two wheels of the BMW, but Bryan's goal at the end was pure quality. I don't know if we can have the expectation of him of last season but I hope he can progress as well.
"I was thinking this morning that we all want to create that fortress straight away in a new stadium. Then I thought, 'can you do that without the fans?'.
"But of course we are very pleased. We need to make it a fortress, we got the first win so that's good."
Huddersfield head coach Carlos Corberan:
"I think we finished the first half well and started to have some chances. We started the second half well, we felt comfortable, but the one pressure they created, they scored.
"After that we couldn't keep the mentality and intensity. You have to arrive at the end of the game with that mentality and intensity."
