Sheffield United tracking Brentford star

A report from the Sheffield Star has said that Premier League side Sheffield United are keeping a close eye on Brentford forward Ollie Watkins ahead of the January transfer window.

Brentford forward Ollie Watkins has enjoyed a thoroughly successful start to the Championship season, starring for Thomas Frank’s side over the course of the first half of the season. And now, it has emerged that Premier League club is taking an interest in Watkins.

Sheffield United – who were linked with a move for Watkins in the summer transfer window – are reportedly considering a move for Watkins and are keeping an eye on him in the run-up to the January transfer window. The forward has previously featured out on the wing, but he has starred in a central role for Frank this season.

After 19 Championship games, Watkins has bagged 12 goals, providing three assists along the way – all of which came in the Bees’ 7-0 thumping of strugglers Luton Town. In total, Watkins has scored 35 goals and provided 17 assists since joining the club from Exeter City in the summer of 2017, making 113 appearances along the way.

This is not the first time Watkins has been subject to Premier League transfer interest. In the summer transfer window, the likes of Crystal Palace were among the sides said keen as well as the Blades who have reportedly maintained their transfer interest heading into the January window.

It will be interesting to see if Watkins remains at Griffin Park this winter, with the club keen to keep him on board. But if any clubs in the Premier League are willing to offer big money, it will be interesting to see if Brentford are tempted into letting Watkins leave.
