Hull City hit with major injury blow ahead of QPR test

Hull City have been hit with a major injury blow ahead of their visit of QPR following the news that defender Jordy de Wijs has been ruled out through injury as reported by the Hull Daily Mail.

De Wijs had been an ever-present in City’s defence this season but ankle ligament damage suffered in training last week means he will be unavailable for this weekend’s game against Rangers.

The defender could return for their game against Nottingham Forest but the loss of De Wijs will be huge as they look to bounce back following their 3-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town.

Matthew Pennington or Ryan Tafazolli is expected to win a recall alongside Reece Burke in the centre of defence.

Manager Grant McCann confirmed: “We’ll be missing Jordy. He picked up an injury last week in training, a couple of ligaments in his ankle that he damaged. He won’t be available for the weekend.”

“It won’t be too long. He’ll miss Saturday, maybe come back into training Monday or Tuesday hopefully. Worst case scenario he might miss the next two.”

“Jordy’s been good this season so it is frustrating. It was a knock in training when someone fell on his ankle when he planted his foot. We knew right away he’d done something.”

“Luckily it happened quite early in the break because he could’ve missed more games. We’re pleased with his progress in the last seven days. He’s getting there.”

The Tigers will be hoping for the return of De Wijs as soon as possible as they look to improve on their current standing of 16th in the Championship table.
