Millwall caretaker boss focused on Brentford clash amid managerial speculation

Millwall caretaker boss Adam Barrett has said he is fully focused on their game against Brentford this Saturday despite ongoing speculation regarding their managerial vacancy.

The Lions are in the hunt for a new manager to replace Neil Harris, who left the club last week.

Wycombe Wanderers’ Gareth Ainsworth has been heavily linked with the vacancy over the past 24 hours or so, whilst names such as Gary Rowett, Tim Cahill and Kevin Muscat continue to be in the running.

Barrett, who was previously Millwall’s first team coach, won his first game in caretaker charge against Leeds United before the international break and will be looking to make it back-to-back wins against fellow London side Brentford this weekend.

He has said, as per a report by London News Online: “At the moment I’m just concentrating day by day. I’ve got to make sure everyone is prepared properly for Brentford. The chairman informed me in the middle of last week that he’d like me to take the Brentford match, which I’m delighted to do.”

That is what we are getting ready to do. We have got a few lads away on international duty, hopefully they come back fit and ready. The chairman, chief executive and the football club are conducting themselves properly, like they always do. They will do their processes and work behind the scenes.”

He added: “I’m sure when there is something to be spoken about then everybody will know about it.”
