Vincent-Young Fee £500,000 Thursday, 15th Aug 2019 12:37
Town have agreed to pay Colchester United £500,000 for right-back Kane Vincent-Young, the first fee the Blues have shelled out for a player this summer.
The 23-year-old will be only the second player manager Paul Lambert has paid cash for since he joined the club with Alan Judge having cost a nominal sum when he signed from Brentford in January.
Lambert, who has been targeting another three additions to his squad, has spoken of his frustration at the lack of cash which has been made available to him this summer, however, he appears now to have loosened owner Marcus Evans's purse strings to some degree.
The player is yet to agree personal terms and undergo a medical and the move isn't expected to be confirmed today.
Vincent-Young spent time on trial with Town during pre-season ahead of 2018/19 but wasn't offered a deal and ended up signing a new two-year contract at Colchester.
Last week the one-time Tottenham academy youngster, who also had a spell with Banbury early in his career, was linked with moves to Championship sides Luton and Charlton but their transfer deadline passed with Vincent-Young still at the JobServe Community Stadium. Leagues One and Two are still open for transfer business until September 2nd.
Town reportedly may not be the only contenders for the Camden-born defender’s signature with Sky having claimed that Sunderland could also join the chase, however, they seem very much the front-runners.

So we watched him and turned him down pre season. Now willing to pay £500k. Could we have got him for nothing? If so, just another example of our commercial lack of awareness.
Brave Blue it was over a year ago we had him in pre-season under Hurst. He decided to go with £750k on Donacian. Another excellent season under his belt. I have no real problem with this. Bare in mind his age meant we would have had to pay compensation for him if we took him last season as well. Just be pleased a good player might join.
Previously we were in championship and lambert wasn't manager hence wasn't offered a deal after trial. Now we are a league lower with different manager that obviously likes what he sees. How did he do last season out of interest ?
No-one was expecting us to spend millions, but I think £500k is a decent sum and a good signal of intent from the club.
One of the few U's players who I thought stood out in that preseason game. Versatile and a good age too - let's hope personal terms, etc. all go to plan!
@Saxonblue74 - Its definitely a plan considering the excellent strike ! . Col U Fans rate him very highly it seems. Goal scoring Full Backs, not had too many over the years. Wilnis vs Man Utd was one of my favourite goals.
Having gone through comments made by the EADT reporter who follows & reports Colchester for that paper, he rate him highly & Colchester fans look disappointed he is going! I've only seen clips via Tv YouTube he certainly looks better going forward, good technique & pacey! I'd imagine he will be a replacement for Janoi who's crossing & final ball Saturday was poor he would be better as a covering CentreBack: I still believe we need another Forward & a Winger if we get these done & get all injured players back, we have a squad that should be Top 6 at least! Roll on Peterborough 4,000 fans is amazing travelling support COYB!!
A good addition to a bone bare squad, let's hope it all goes through, as only been agreed. Maybe another striker as well with Garbutt out and for competition for places.
