McCarthy Impressed By Blues Pair
Saturday, 16th Feb 2019 21:14

Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy was impressed by Town pair Will Keane and Alan Judge having watched them in his capacity as new Republic of Ireland manager during this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Stoke, after also returning to Portman Road for Wednesday’s game with Derby which ended in the same scoreline.

Keane, 26, is currently in the process of completing the paperwork in order to be eligible for Ireland, where his father was born, having previously played youth football for England, while Judge, 30, has won five caps, scoring once.

“Will [Keane] took his goal well at a time when Ipswich really needed it so his timing was good all round today,” McCarthy told the FAI’s website.

“I was impressed again with Alan Judge as well. Alan was very unfortunate with the injury he picked up when playing at Ipswich with Brentford and I am delighted to see him back to his best.

“The fact that James McClean scored the opening goal of the game for Stoke was a bonus as well.”

Judge is too good for you I'm afraid Mick you would bypass him with your tactical masterclass.

I wonder if you also noted and was impressed by the togetherness at the club...or was that something that you chose not to notice

Still some sour grapes comments on here! I imagine he was sat there feeling very smug.

Cime on guys, Mick gave us alot of good times in very straitened financial circumstances. Immature, snide comments are pathetic.

I thought it was unprofessional and immature of him to tell us to f off, rfretwell, but there y'go.

Boo Mick called us numbskulls boo.

We've gone on to much better things now. Stick that in your pipe Mick...

I wasn't against Mick going, it was time he went but some of us fans think we're back to the Burley days after 2 home draws.

Ryorry and Glued, I think he was right on the mark. The “us” you refer to are the reason we are where we are.

Surely he was watching McClean too who looked bang average.

Ryorry....yeah, but imagine the abuse he (and lots of footballers) take from the crowd; abuse that if given in the street would actually be a criminal offence. The guy is human. I don't think that outweighs the finishes he helped us achieve....although at a cost to any entertainment, I grant you.

I wouldn't have thought he was sat there feeling smug or feeling and had any sense of joy from our predicament.

I don't think he is that kind of man.

Couldn't watch his football but I didn't dislike him as a person.

Jeez, arn't the Mick haters out in force on here, he was not at the match to praise Town why should he considering the shameful way that he was treated. No, he was here to cast his eye over town players, players that could possibly be chosen to represent their countries, if they are it will be the highlight of their career. To these Mick haters remember, if you keep looking into the past you will have no vision for the future. Lambert must be very aware that the way MM was treated, and could quite easily be the way that he is also treated if things do not go as the MM haters wants.

Like him or loathe him I'm pleased that he can come to his old club and look for Irish talent. When Roy Keane comes back with Forest he will deserve everything thrown at him. Our worst manager by far and the most arrogant.

Agree with North Vet, I doubt Mick holds any kind of grudge towards the club itself, in fact he probably misses aspects of it as it's a good club to belong to. Okay, he might not miss some of us fans and fair play to him on that one, but we have moved on and so has he. I actually miss them awkward press conferences, I doubt the journo's do though.

From someone who defended McCarthy to the hilt ( first 2 and half seasons ) and believed, then , for him to be pivotal in readdressing the club's gradual but consistent slide into the abyss, is somewhat different to how I would now assess his tenure! The saddest thing is the lack of respect I now have for the man, not manager, but man! Vulgar and 'pig headed'! Very glad both parties have gone separate ways!

He was always well liked around the club.
It was just the bloody numbskulls...
As with most people, it's far more likely he has noticed we are bottom of the league than noticed the 'togetherness.'

All I have to add is......poor Ireland.
Football the world over has moved on and progressed since MM was last in international management.
He will be out his depth, with his 20 year old way of playing the game.

dirtydingusmagee added 19:05 - Feb 17
he will have noticed that although we are going down ,as he pompously predicted, the atmosphere was far more upbeat than under his tenure.

Probably best to embrace PL's future, rather than reheat MM's past. It's done and dusted.
