Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy was impressed by Town pair Will Keane and Alan Judge having watched them in his capacity as new Republic of Ireland manager during this afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Stoke, after also returning to Portman Road for Wednesday’s game with Derby which ended in the same scoreline.

Keane, 26, is currently in the process of completing the paperwork in order to be eligible for Ireland, where his father was born, having previously played youth football for England, while Judge, 30, has won five caps, scoring once.

“Will [Keane] took his goal well at a time when Ipswich really needed it so his timing was good all round today,” McCarthy told the FAI’s website.

“I was impressed again with Alan Judge as well. Alan was very unfortunate with the injury he picked up when playing at Ipswich with Brentford and I am delighted to see him back to his best.

“The fact that James McClean scored the opening goal of the game for Stoke was a bonus as well.”

No, he was here to cast his eye over town players, players that could possibly be chosen to represent their countries, if they are it will be the highlight of their career. To these Mick haters remember, if you keep looking into the past you will have no vision for the future. Lambert must be very aware that the way MM was treated, and could quite easily be the way that he is also treated if things do not go as the MM haters wants.

cat added 12:34 - Feb 17 Agree with North Vet, I doubt Mick holds any kind of grudge towards the club itself, in fact he probably misses aspects of it as it's a good club to belong to. Okay, he might not miss some of us fans and fair play to him on that one, but we have moved on and so has he. I actually miss them awkward press conferences, I doubt the journo's do though.

warktheline added 14:13 - Feb 17 From someone who defended McCarthy to the hilt ( first 2 and half seasons ) and believed, then , for him to be pivotal in readdressing the club's gradual but consistent slide into the abyss, is somewhat different to how I would now assess his tenure! The saddest thing is the lack of respect I now have for the man, not manager, but man! Vulgar and 'pig headed'! Very glad both parties have gone separate ways!
