Third Time Lucky for Judge
Monday, 14th Jan 2019 20:52

New signing Alan Judge has revealed he is joining the Blues at the third time of asking, former boss Mick McCarthy having targeted him twice during his time in charge at Portman Road.

Judge, 30, came close to signing for Town in the summer of 2013 when out of contract with Notts County but the Blues were outgunned financially by Blackburn Rovers, only recently out of the Premier League.

And the Republic of Ireland international, Paul Lambert’s sixth addition of the January transfer window, says McCarthy made another move for him a year ago.

“I’ve been here before. I know what a big club it is and how good it can be here,” the Dubliner, who has joined Town from Brentford for a nominal fee, signing a contract to the end of the season with an option for a further season, told iFollow Ipswich.

“I nearly signed here under Mick McCarthy a few years back and for one reason or another it didn’t happen.

“Then he tried to sign me again last year but I wasn’t fit enough, so it’s third time lucky and I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a deal until the end of the season and then we will see what happens from there. I’m just focused on playing some games for now, helping the team get up the table and enjoying my football again.

“The minute I spoke to the manager I could feel his enthusiasm for the club and that was enough for me. It was an easy decision.

""“I felt wanted immediately and Paul has said to me to go out and play with confidence and try and make things happen. I’ll be giving everything to do that.”

Judge, who will wear the Town number 31 shirt, could make his Blues debut on Saturday at Blackburn, the club where he came through the youth system between 2006 and 2011 and where he had a subsequent spell between 2013 and 2014.

Imagine is we now signed the other one who got away, Billy Sharp. I dream big and unrealistic, but thrilled to see our man in Blue

Great to see our managers enthusiasm is reaping reward. It really is unbelievably positive at Portman Road these days and we are bottom of the league! A very unusual
Season. Let's hope it has a positive ending for us and then we can begin the climb next season.

It's a pity we didn't get Judge before, but delighted to have him here now. Could be a real bargain.

This could be the most positive relegation ever, I am really looking forward to seeing Lambert's team develop even if it is in League One for a season. 20,000+ fans there Saturday suggested the supporters will not desert the club. While results have been dire, it has certainly not been a boring season.

We are not getting relegated Mark.
Know it is easy to say with no consequence if I am wrong but PJ has transformed everything and the are 57 points available.
Staying up now will feel as good as promotion would have so lets look forward to that.
I actually think we will be safe by Easter.
If I am wrong feel free to remind me of my delusion in May.

.......... still knocking Evans ? .......... how dare you ? - having never refused a Manager money to players,
step forward any Manager who has, including a certain MM..... !!!

Evans and Lambert, in all fairness, gave what we had the chance to step up, but they didn't / couldn't - now the change is wholesale with a view to next season wherever that may see us.

Welcome Alan Judge - we all wish you well.

If both Lambert and McCarthy rate him, Judge must be quality. Look forward to him injecting some creativity and goals into the midfield.

I've always said Paul Lambert was a good judge of a player but the jury's out on this one i think the sentence already been passed.

i know it may well still come back to haunt us at the end of the season, but Hurst's reign seems a long way away now, Paul Lambert is lifting everyone's spirits and injecting hope and a fighting spirit going into this crucial period for the club.Welcome to Town Alan ,COYB .

@ Mark
The 20K attendance Saturday was largely due to the match tickets priced as £12.00 and £3.00 for kids. I bet it won't be that many there when it goes back to £30+

The answer to the attendance number is simple keep it at £12 and fill the ground don't forget extra fans spend extra money on add ons like programs and food and before anyone goes on about season ticket holders of which I am one, now would be an ideal time for the powers that be to look very closely at the Huddersfield model ie £250 to renew.

Should have added before posting. Let's just fill the ground crank up the atmosphere and get safe before worrying about the prices then look at rewarding/thanking season ticket holders.

The queues at the tills in Planet Blue on Saturday were huge! Everyone happy and full of confidence! An indication of the fantastic supporters the club has!

If we can get that type and level of crowd in every home game what a huge boost to the team that will be!
